‘Step down if you’re a man,’ Bersatu dares Bukit Gantang MP
SHAH ALAM – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has dared Bukit Gantang Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal to resign following his actions in supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Its Information chief Datuk Razali Idris said that MPs who were unprincipled by betraying the leadership or the people must be punished and removed according to the party’s constitution and the laws of the country.
“Once again I challenge Bukit Gantang MP, if he is a man, he should resign without hiding behind the Anti-Hopping Law and return the mandate to the people to hold a by-election as soon as possible.
“I also strongly agree with the Bukit Gantang division head Ahmad Man who urged Syed Abu Hussin to resign as an MP to defend the fate of the people in the Bukit Gantang constituency,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Syed Abu Hussin during the Prime Minister’s Question Time (PMQT) session at the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday, announced his support for Anwar and became the fifth opposition member from Bersatu to do so.
The other four were Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).

Razali added that Bersatu also took seriously the statement by Pendang MP Datuk Awang Hashim, who attributed the change of support to the Bukit Gantang MP to protect his personal interest and those involved in business and criminal allegations.

“It seems that the ongoing efforts to threaten and offer bribes to opposition MPs continue are carefully planned.
“Until now, no statement has been issued by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police over the report lodged.
“In order to investigate whether there is abuse of power and corruption to the point of ‘forcing’ several MPs to make statements in support of the Prime Minister,” he said.
