PETALING JAYA: Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has urged his party members to ignore PAS’s “attacks” against DAP, claiming the Islamic party’s stand could change in the blink of an eye.

Mohamad, a former PAS deputy president, said the party used to be sworn enemies with Umno. The rivalry was not merely about politics but even extended to religious matters.

“However, after Pakatan Harapan (comprising Amanah, PKR, DAP and Bersatu) won the 2018 general election, PAS immediately worked with Umno to bring down the PH government,” he said in a statement.

“Every clash with Umno on matters related to faith was then dropped by PAS,” he said.

Mohamad said PAS used to praise DAP for respecting the constitution and democratic rights, adding that a change in the PAS stance could happen again.
“If Amanah cuts ties with DAP, in an hour, PAS would be reaching out to DAP, which has 40 parliamentary seats.”

He said “power is the ultimate goal” for PAS, and advised Amanah members to “stay calm and ignore them. When the time comes, we will see a change in their attitude”.

Last month, Amanah vice-president Adly Zahari said the party would not object if PAS wanted to be part of the government. However, he said the Islamic party would need to stop “manipulating” 3R (race, religion and royalty) related issues for political purposes.

PAS’s spiritual leader Hashim Jasin replied that Amanah must dump DAP if it was serious about working with his party.

Mohamad brushed off Hashim’s call, saying PAS seemed to have forgotten about its cooperation with DAP when both parties were allies in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.
