5 ministry chiefs in reshuffle amid talk of Cabinet changes
PETALING JAYA: The civil service heads of five ministries will move to new positions tomorrow in a reshuffle that will further fuel speculation of possible changes in the Cabinet lineup.
The civil service reshuffle was announced in a short statement by Chief Secretary to the Government Zuki Ali.
The changes involve the secretaries-general of the ministries of health; defence; investment, trade and industry (Miti); national unity; domestic trade and cost of living; and the federal territories department, formerly a ministry which was folded into the Prime Minister’s Department.
A secretary-general is the most senior civil servant in a ministry and is the professional head of the ministry, answering to the minister.
Zaini Ujang moves from the human resources ministry to the health ministry, taking over from Harjeet Singh, who retired on Feb 28.

Isham Ishak moves from Miti to the defence ministry, to replace Muez Abd Aziz who retired on May 31.
Hairil Yahri Yaacob, who is Isham’s deputy, will take over as Miti secretary-general.
Azman Yusof moves from the domestic trade and cost of living ministry to the national unity ministry, replacing Noridah Abdul Rahim.
Noridah will now serve as the director-general of the federal territories department.
Zuki said the appointments come into effect tomorrow. The statement did not name the new secretaries-general of the human resources ministry and the domestic trade and cost of living ministry.
Talk of a Cabinet reshuffle had arisen following the elections to six state assemblies in August, at which Perikatan Nasional made gains in Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan at the expense of the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional alliance.
Malay votes had reportedly swung to the opposition at the polls.
Julau MP Larry Sng had then urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to bring “experienced Malay parliamentarians” such as former second finance minister Johari Ghani, former health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad, and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin into his Cabinet.
