Claims of sabotaging party proven, says Umno on Noh Omar

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno sacked Noh Omar over multiple acts of sabotage that had already been proven, says Selangor Umno chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin.

He said the party’s disciplinary board had investigated a total of 16 claims made against Noh for acting against the party’s interests, including during the 15th general election (GE15).

“The decision to suspend him is not based on his disagreement with the (no-contest for the top two party posts) motion. There were 16 accusations made against him, of sabotaging the party.

“As we all know, Umno fielded Habibah Yusof for the Tanjong Karang seat (in GE15). However, there was an independent candidate, who was Noh’s own special officer.

“So it’s not true that the decision to suspend him was based on his opposition against the (no-contest) motion (during the general assembly). The party practises democracy,” Megat told reporters last night after an Umno Supreme Council meeting.

Late last night, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan confirmed that Noh had been sacked, along with former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Meanwhile, former Umno vice-president and Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein, former information chief Shahril Hamdan, ex-Jempol MP Salim Sharif, and Tebrau Umno leader Maulizan Bujang have each been suspended for six years.

Noh, who is the former Selangor Umno chief, had initially told reporters that he was also suspended for six years but had requested to be sacked instead, adding that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi agreed to this.

Megat said Noh was given the room to explain himself over the sabotage claims and had been asked to meet the disciplinary board twice. He added that Noh could still appeal his dismissal.

Noh had previously claimed that the party’s disciplinary board had yet to summon him over the claims made against him.
