Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub passed away today, a day after undergoing surgery for a brain haemorrhage. He was 61.

Salahuddin, who last served as the domestic trade and cost of living minister, was pronounced dead at 9.23pm at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, Kedah.

The former PAS Youth leader was among those who left the Islamist party in 2015 to form Amanah.

He also served as the agriculture and agro-based industry minister during the two-year Pakatan Harapan administration led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

At the general election last year, he defeated Umno’s Nur Jazlan Mohamed and Perikatan Nasional’s Loh Kah Yong for the Pulai parliamentary seat in Johor, returning as its MP for a fourth term.

Besides Pulai, Salahuddin served as the MP of Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, for two terms while still with PAS.

The Johor politician leaves behind his wife Fatimah Taha and six children.
