PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional’s Kuang assemblyman Rafiq Abdullah and residents plan to obtain an injunction against the planned construction of the Sultan Idris Shah green energy plant and rubbish incinerator in Rawang.

Rafiq said he would file for the injunction, together with residents from Bandar Tasik Puteri, Kota Puteri, Batu Arang, M Residence, Kuang and Saujana Rawang, as soon as possible should the state government remain unresponsive to their complaints.

“We are assembling a legal team to prevent the proposed construction if the state government does not make a stance or decision on it in the near future,” he said during his press conference with residents who protested against the project today.

He was quoted by Harian Metro as saying that the objection is not against the construction of the incinerator, but its location.

Meanwhile, Rawang Tolak Insinerator (RTI) Network spokesman Abdul Hanan Abd Mokti said he is still waiting to hear from the Selangor menteri besar’s office for a meeting on the issue.

The group, which represents residents of Batu Arang, M Residence, Kota Puteri and Bandar Tasik Puteri, last week said it wished to forward its concerns about the effects of the incinerator on the environment to the Selangor menteri besar.

Previously, Pakatan Harapan’s Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said he would raise objections from residents over the planned construction of the incinerator there.

Chua said he and Selayang MP William Leong opposed the incinerator project.

He said the two of them had put forward their views to KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd, the company that would be constructing the facility, in July.

They told the company that the location was unsuitable due to concerns over industrial pollution and the influx of garbage trucks into the area.
