PM at IJN to visit Hadi, ex-adviser

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was at the National Heart Institute (IJN) this afternoon to pay PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang a visit, but was unable to do so.

According to an X post by Bernama, Hadi is receiving treatment at the hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

Anwar later told reporters he was unable to meet Hadi as he was resting after undergoing a procedure.

“We pray that he will recover quickly and be able to resume his duties soon,” he said.

Anwar had gone to IJN after performing Friday prayers to visit Hadi as well as Ziauddin Sardar.

Ziauddin is a British-Pakistani academic and intellectual who has written extensively on Muslim thought and cultural issues. He was also a special adviser to Anwar when Anwar was the education minister from 1986 to 1991.

Hadi had been admitted to IJN for treatment several times over recent years, though the nature of his illness was not disclosed.

In July last year, he was admitted to a hospital in Kuala Terengganu. His son, Khalil, had said then that the Marang MP’s health was deteriorating, and asked the public to pray for his father’s recovery.

Hadi’s condition later stabilised before he was moved from the coronary care unit (CCU) to a regular ward and later discharged.

Meanwhile, Khalil told FMT that Hadi was at IJN for a scheduled procedure and was in a stable condition.

He said his father will not be taking visitors and will be discharged within the next couple of days.
