Couple killed in Damansara Utama fire believed to have died from smoke inhalation
PETALING JAYA: The couple killed in the Damansara Utama house fire on Saturday (March 16) are believed to have died due to smoke inhalation.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Ja’afar said that this was the initial finding from medical personnel at the scene.
“The bodies have been sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for a post-mortem. We are classifying the case as sudden death,” he said in a statement on Sunday (March 17).
In the 5.20am incident on Saturday, only the couple’s teenage daughter survived the incident, he said.
“We urge those with information to contact Petaling Jaya police headquarters at 03-7966 2222 or the investigating officer Insp Hafizzul Mohd Noor at 016-223 6804,” he added.
Kang Tsi Yam, 61, and his wife Leong Chen Mun, 55 were killed in Saturday’s fire at their home in Damansara Utama.
Firemen managed to put out the fire at about 6.20am and the double storey house was 70% burnt. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
