KUALA LUMPUR: Netizens have praised Kuala Lumpur City Hall for its swift action in demolishing food stalls in the Chow Kit area here that have been illegally operated by foreigners for the past 30 years.

According to viral TikTok posts by @bangam007, City Hall officers were seen supervising demolition works in the area that involved the use of tractors.

In another video, the man also said that all stalls had vanished in just 24 hours, and praised City Hall for its swift action.

City Hall, in recent Facebook posts, said it was not hiding the fact that it had been actively patrolling hotspots in the city to detect illegal stalls. If spotted, they would not hesitate to take immediate action.

The videos had gone viral on X (formally Twitter). While some Malaysians said they would miss their favourite dishes sold at the demolished stalls, others were happy to see City Hall taking the problem seriously.

Some were also hoping to see City Hall officers paying a visit to other places.

“The stalls here are gone. They were run by Indonesians. I’ve been here for 30 years, this is the first time. No one had the guts to take these stalls down the past,” a user said.

Netizens also praised the efficiency of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa in carrying out her responsibilities.

“It seems that Chow Kit is a bit cleaner now. But it’s strange that for decades, why hasn’t anyone dared to take action against those illegal shops there? Good job on the effort to clean up Kuala Lumpur, Dr Zaliha,” says user @SyedAkramin.
