PETALING JAYA: Unofficial results from the Umno elections place Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Khaled Nordin and Johari Ghani on track to win their Umno vice-presidential bids for the 2023-2026 term.

The latest unofficial results at Umno Online show the trio pulling into commanding leads, with Wan Rosdy securing 75 votes, Khaled garnering 72 and Johari following closely behind with 60.

Khaled was one of two vice-presidents who had sought re-election. The other, Mahdzir Khalid, had secured only 15 votes at 11.30pm.

Another vice-president, former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, had decided not to defend his post as a sign of protest against the party’s motion not to allow the posts of president and deputy president to be contested.



Other candidates vying for the vice-presidency are Pengerang MP Azalina Othman Said, former Kepala Batas MP Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Pontian Umno division chief and Simpang Renggam MP Hasni Mohammad, as well as Iskandar Puteri division member Yusof Musa.

Azalina had secured 38 votes, Reezal 31 and Hasni 26. Yusof had no votes at 11.30pm, Bernama reported.

In the contest for the 25 seats on the Supreme Council, two ministers and three deputy ministers are among the front-runners.

They are international trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz, foreign minister Zambry Abd Kadir, deputy home minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, deputy finance minister Ahmad Maslan, and deputy works minister Abdul Rahman Mohamad.



Shamsul was ahead with 78 votes, closely followed by Tengku Zafrul with 75.

Also in the top 25 are Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin, Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi, former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said, former Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, former Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, former Kota Belud MP Abdul Rahman Dahlan and Lokman Noor Adam.

A total of 189 divisions cast their ballots during today’s party elections.
