SHAH ALAM – Netizens demanded a boycott of a local fast food chain over a viral concert that involved tahfiz students and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently.

Taking to Twitter, Pas Gombak Information Chief Dr Fairuz Azmi urged the relevant authority to take responsibility over this issue.

“Somebody needs to take responsibility for these. The organiser, the relevant department in the government or probably even the owner of the tahfiz.

“Bringing tahfiz students to this kind of place and event, does not make this concert good, rather, it insults and humiliates them,” he said.

The Twitter post saw many enraged users who called for everyone to boycott the fast food chain for hosting such an event.

However, most social media users pointed out that Anwar and the Tahfiz students were not aware of the arrangements of concerts; they were just invited as an audience.

Meanwhile, another user said, “I am a Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporter and I agree with this statement. Prime Minister and Tahfiz students do not need to attend this kind of event.”

Another user Koken said, “It is not appropriate to invite Tahfiz students to attend such concerts.

“Organisers are responsible for this. There is no fault on the artist as they are doing their job.

In line with its 50th anniversary celebrations, the fast food chain hosted a one-of-a-kind musical experience featuring 40 homegrown singers including Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza.

The series of music festivals was held at Stadium Malawati in Shah Alam on Aug 26 which also saw Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil present.

On Monday, a video of the concert went viral on social media where a group of teenagers alleged to be children of tahfiz were among the visitors invited to attend the concert.
