Hadi: Don’t blame us if the government falls again

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has cautioned the government to not point fingers at the government backbenchers should the government collapse again.

The Marang member of parliament said the current government should put the blame on its own flaws and weaknesses if it crumbles.

“Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties did not secure enough seats and in turn were forced to combine with other smaller diseased parties to ensure they have sufficient numbers to form a government.

“Do not blame us if it falls again. The changes in the government were not through the backdoor, but because the roof was already leaking and the glass walls have shattered (Bukan tebuk atap, tetapi atapnya bocor, pintunya terbuka dan dindingnya pecah),” he said when debating the 2023 Budget in Dewan Rakyat, today.

In February 2020, the political crisis dubbed the “Sheraton Move” saw the fall of the ruling PH government and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation after 22 months in power.

The PH federal administration was replaced by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and included Barisan Nasional members of parliament.

Hadi also said the government should not take “revenge” towards civil servants after it failed to secure their votes in GE15.

He added credible politicians with integrity should be fair to all parties and quarters, regardless of race, religion or political affiliation.

“The Opposition’s role in a democratic country after an election took place is to serve as the government’s adviser and ensure the government is not arrogant to the point of being unaware of its weaknesses.”

Meanwhile, Hadi also took a jab at the government on the delays for constituencies and state allocations for the states under opposition.

He said the delays were not in line with the democratic principles in the Islamic teachings.

Previously, Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim has also questioned why the government did not allocate constituency funds for opposition MPs in the 2023 Budget.
